The region’s first ever Buy Local Day will be held on Saturday June 22.

Sunshine Coast Council, in collaboration with Buy Local Sunshine Coast is calling on all local businesses and consumers to take part.

Find out how to establish a Google business page, get a media kit, activate your business and team up with neighboring businesses to collectively activate your precinct.

New venue in CBD

The Maroochydore City Centre welcomes a new addition to its vibrant community with the opening of Community CoLab.

Community CoLab is a low-cost venue-for-hire on the ground floor at Sunshine Coast City Hall.

The venue offers a versatile space for up to 20 people, providing an excellent space for small events and meetings.

Mayor welcomes rail investment 

Sunshine Coast Council Mayor Rosanna Natoli is calling on the Australian Government to use Tuesday night’s Federal Budget to address cost of living pressures, housing affordability and the short-fall in infrastructure investment in one of the nation’s fastest growing regions.

Mayor Natoli said these were consistent themes raised with her during the recent Council election campaign and key elements of her 10-point plan.

How to be more inclusive hosts 

Business and tourism operators are invited to a panel discussion aimed at shaping the Sunshine Coast as a more accessible and inclusive destination.

The Access Ignites Panel Event will be held at Altitude Nine in the Maroochydore City Centre on May 31 from 4pm.

The panel discussion, proudly supported by Sunshine Coast Council, will talk about how we can be better hosts for all our visitors and also discuss employment for people with disabilities.

Mooloolaba foreshore update

Planning for Mooloolaba’s foreshore revitalisation is continuing as important decisions about awarding a construction contractor and construction timing for Stage 2 of the seaside upgrade are determined.

The project will now start in 2025.

At the fourth Business Activation Group meeting on May 7, the group was informed that the project should now start in early 2025 allowing businesses more time to prepare.

Ferris wheel returns

The Skyline Attractions Ferris Wheel is back in Caloundra for the first time in three years and will be based at Kings Beach Water Fountain.

The relocation from Bulcock Beach to Kings Beach ensures the wheel won’t take up any car park spaces, while also enhancing the accessibility and enjoyment for visitors.

Locals and tourists are invited to enjoy the wheel and all the amazing attractions Caloundra has to offer including a free family movie evening at Kings Beach Amphitheatre on May 24, and a retro car festival Downunder Beachfest from May 29.

World class event on the way

The picturesque shores of Mooloolaba are set to come alive with the return of the Australian Coastal Rowing and Beach Sprint Championships, which will take place from August 15-18.

Maroochydore Multi Sports Complex will host Australian rules football with an international flavour when around 500 people representing teams from across the Pacific region visit November 14-24. The Pacific Cup competition comprises male and female Open and Under 17 divisions.  

Invited nations to the Pacific Cup include Fiji, Nauru, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Vanuatu, South Africa, Samoa and Solomon Islands, with the final list of participating countries to be confirmed.

The first events to be funded through this category include the Australian Wearable Art Festival, where high-end fashion and art collide, The Rangebow Festival to celebrate the creative life and spirit of everyone in the Hinterland communities, Sunshine Coast Chamber Music Festival that hosts concerts amid the unique backdrop of our natural wonders and SHOWFEST celebrating our growing film and TV industry.
