Students rise to challenge
From a unique ocean cleaner, to a fix for the housing crisis and ‘Fundies’ underpants that help the injured and elderly, the Sunshine Coast’s young entrepreneurs and innovators are rising to the challenge.
The excitement is building as the latest cohort of visionaries in Years 9 to 12 move to the next phase of the prestigious Mayor’s Telstra Innovation Awards.
Finalists now have the opportunity to further develop their ideas with the support of local mentors including Manufacturing Excellence founding director Tim Kelly, Sunshine Coast Maker Space founder Dominic Vrolijks, Creative Collective founder Yvette Adams, TAFE Qld’s Ilana Boom and Dr Saskia De Klerk from UniSC.

Mayor’s mission to boost our Games
The Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games are fast approaching, and Sunshine Coast Council Mayor Rosanna Natoli will be there representing the Sunshine Coast’s interests at the on-ground Olympic Family Program.
The program is designed to help future host cities and Games Delivery Partners gain useful insights into what it takes to host the biggest sporting event in the world.
Transport requirements, community impact, the Cultural Olympiad and local business opportunities are high on the agenda as well as observing events that are proposed to be held on the Sunshine Coast in 2032.

Demolition benefits community and environment
Redevelopment work to transform Council’s Caloundra administration building in Omrah Avenue into an integrated community facility with a contemporary district library and meeting spaces is well underway.
A range of furniture located at the Caloundra Administration Building and destined for landfill has been traded – and given new purpose through the use of the online marketplace-style ASPIRE platform.
The ASPIRE platform is accessible to all organisations with an ABN and is free if you have fewer than 100 full time staff.

Global gathering
This month Council hosted the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade along with international delegates from Canada, China, Germany, Japan, India, Italy, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Republic of Korea and the UK.
This was an opportunity to provide an overview of the products and services the Coast can supply into relevant countries and the benefits that come from investing and doing business with our region.
The one day program also showcased some of our amazing businesses including Advanced Aquarium Technologies, Next DC, Walker Seafoods and Kilcoy Global Foods.

Tavern's triumph
Congratulations to Kings Beach Tavern for winning regional entertainment venue of the year at the Queensland Music Awards, marking another shining achievement for Caloundra.
The venue is attracting some big names to the seaside playground. Recently hosting the likes of the Black Sorrows, Seth Sentury, Pacific Avenue, Wendy Matthews, Thundamentals, Mallrat, Grinspoons' Phil Jamieson, Wolfmother, and the Rubens.

Business Growth Fund
The Business Growth Fund targets QLD businesses who can accelerate growth, drive our economy and employ more Queenslanders.
Small and medium-sized businesses that employ 5-49 people (headcount) with high-growth plans may be eligible for the next round.
This program offers grants of $50,000 to $75,000 to support the purchase of specialised equipment as a co-contribution with eligible businesses.

$100 million of innovative green loans available
The Sustainable Australia Fund (SAF) supports businesses to make upgrades to their building or property to reduce costs while improving the value of assets.
SAF are providing green loans from $15k to $20M for projects that deliver an environmental benefit on existing buildings used for commercial purpose.
