Golden Beach foreshore works:

TS Onslow seawall update

Hello Golden Beach community,

Thanks for staying connected and signing up for updates about projects happening in your neighbourhood.

In short

  • The new seawall to protect the foreshore from Nelson Street to the TS Onslow Naval Cadets is now complete.
  • We’ve engaged a specialist coastal engineering company to design a new seawall and drainage improvements at Diamond Head. We expect construction of Stage 1 to start around mid to late 2026, depending on procurement and weather conditions.
  • Have your say: let us know if we’ve got it right on the proposed landscaping elements for Keith Hill Park. Consultation closes 3 July 2026.

TS Onslow seawall renewal complete

We’re pleased to share that we’ve completed the TS Onslow seawall renewal.

This vital project strengthens one of Golden Beach’s most loved foreshore areas, delivering greater protection from coastal hazards and more ways for you to enjoy the water safely.

The upgraded coastal protection works and improved access features are part of Council’s ongoing, strategic approach to safeguarding Golden Beach in the face of a changing environment.

This project will protect the much‑loved parkland, coastal pathway and Esplanade, while giving the community easier and safer access to the water.
A new layer of protection and a fresh way to enjoy the water

Two new staircases and two four‑metre‑wide ramps mean more spots for families to swim, launch craft or simply enjoy the passage.

Works included a 208‑metre-long rock and concrete stepped seawall, two staircases, an integrated access ramp, upgraded landscaping and improvements to the Navy Cadets boat ramp and adjoining parklands.

Sunshine Coast Council worked in partnership with the Australian and Queensland Governments through the Disaster Funding Recovery Arrangements with funding of $6.3 million, to reconstruct the seawall from Nelson Street to the TS Onslow Naval Cadets site.

Diamond Head seawall update

We’re working hard to protect and preserve the beautiful foreshore along Diamond Head at Golden Beach – so it keeps the character and values our community loves.

Severe storm seasons from 2022 - 2025 have caused rapid changes to Bribie Island and we must act to plan the protection of this well-loved space.

The new seawall from Lamerough Canal to the June Street boat ramp is being designed to be adaptable for future conditions like storm surges, higher tides, sea level rise and erosion linked to the Bribie Island breakthrough and predicted climate changes.

(It's important to note that the Queensland Government manages Bribie Island.)

The project also aims to upgrade the stormwater outlets to reduce flooding, renew parts of the coastal pathway, move benches and tables to less vulnerable positions, barbecues, park shade trees, shelters, and linking pathways, to more suitable locations.

Here’s what’s underway:
  • We’ve engaged a specialist coastal engineering company to design a new seawall and drainage improvements.
  • We listened closely to the feedback shared during last year’s seawall consultation. Your input helped shape the design, with changes that matter to the community – including more staircases and access ramps. We’ve also looked for ways to reduce the visual impact of the seawall, so it fits more naturally into the landscape.
  • We expect construction of Stage 1 (from Lamerough Canal to the Military jetty boat ramps) to start around mid to late 2026, depending on procurement and weather conditions.
  • This work forms part of the Bribie Island Breakthrough Action Plan.
  • We’re continuing to seek further funding to be able to construct the entire wall, through State and Federal Government recovery and resilience grant opportunities.

Phase 2 engagement – Diamond Head foreshore (Keith Hill Park)

Have we got it right?
Thanks to the valuable input from our community during Phase 1 engagement late 2025, we have prepared a draft concept design for the Diamond Head foreshore at Keith Hill Park.

This stage checks that the design reflects what you told us and gives you a chance to help fine tune the plan before we finalise it. We invite you to review the draft concept design and share your feedback.

Consultation now open: Monday 8 June to Friday 3 July, 5pm.

How to get involved
  • View the draft concept design
  • Complete a short online survey - visit Have your Say Sunshine Coast website.
  • Tell us what works well and what we should consider
  • Meet us in the park: Wednesday 17 June 2026, 9am to 11am, Military Jetty shelter . Chat with the design team about the project.
Your feedback will help shape the final design. Park upgrades will follow seawall construction, subject to funding approval.

Take a look at the plan and share your thoughts to help us finalise a foreshore that works for our community now and into the future.

Consultation is now open. You can share your feedback until 3 July on our Have your Say Sunshine Coast website.
