Maple Street Streetscape, Maleny
|
Hello Maleny community,
We’re getting ready to refresh Maple Street, with works starting in late June 2026.
This is about making the street safer, greener and easier to get around – while keeping Maleny’s relaxed, country‑town feel. Local businesses will stay open, and we’ll keep you updated every step of the way.

What's happening and why
|
After years of local feedback and planning, we’re moving ahead with a streetscape upgrade for Maple Street, between Myrtle and Teak streets.
We’ve heard what matters most to our community. You want a safer, more comfortable main street – without losing the charm that makes Maleny special.
This project is designed to do exactly that. It keeps Maleny’s character front and centre, with natural materials, more greenery and space for people to connect.

What you'll notice
|
The upgrades focus on simple, practical improvements that make a real difference day to day:
- Safer crossings and slower traffic to make it easier to walk around town
- Wider, smoother footpaths in key areas for prams, wheelchairs and everyday use
- More trees and shade, with over 1,500 plants to help cool and green the street
- Places to sit and meet, so you can pause, chat and enjoy the town
- Clear signage to help everyone find their way
- Heritage and cultural touches that reflect Maleny’s identity
Together, these changes will create a main street that feels welcoming, easy to use and true to place.

Construction timing
|
We’ve engaged local company Disc Landscapes to deliver the works.
- Start: Late June 2026
- Finish: Late December 2026 (weather and site conditions permitting)
Works will be done in stages across two zones to reduce impacts:
- Zone 1: Teak Street to Fig Street
- Zone 2: Fig Street to Myrtle Street
You’ll see early works focus on new pedestrian crossings, followed by drainage and footpaths, then final landscaping and finishes toward the end of the year.
We’ll share clear timing for each stage as we go.

What to expect during works
|
We’ll keep Maple Street open and accessible throughout construction.
Most work is expected to take place during the day, Monday to Friday, between 7am and 5pm. Some work outside those hours may be undertaken if necessary. We will let our community know in advance if night works are required.
There may be some temporary changes, including:
- single lane closures
- short detours for pedestrians
- some changes to parking
Traffic controllers and signage will be in place to help you move safely.

Parking changes
|
Permanent parking changes are needed to make Maple Street safer and easier to use. We’ve worked hard to keep as much parking as possible. This was a key consideration of the streetscape’s design.
Some existing parking bays do not meet current safety standards, so the changes will improve safety, visibility and access for everyone.
Seventeen car parks will be impacted by the work, however eight new car parks will be created on Maple Street and in surrounding streets to offset this.
This means there will be a net reduction of nine spaces.
All accessible parks (People With a Disability parking) and motorcycle parking spaces will stay. Taxi parking outside the IGA will also be improved to make it safer to get in and out.
There is still plenty of nearby parking available on surrounding streets, including Teak Street, Fig Street, Bicentenary Lane and the IGA carpark (when visiting the store).
