Moffat Beach seawall reconstruction

March update

Dear Moffat Beach community,
Thanks for subscribing to receive updates about local Moffat Beach projects.

We appreciate your patience and support as work continues on the Moffat Beach seawall reconstruction.

We’re committed to keeping you informed, prepared, and engaged as we move through the next stages, with this month’s project update.
Moffat Beach remains open to welcome you. Grab a coffee, browse the shops, and catch up at your favourite café.

In short:

  • Expected completion: last quarter of 2026.
  • We’re making steady progress: Eastern Section is underway, western section is complete, ~80% of central section delivered.
  • Progress made in March: 40m excavated and 40m built.
  • A Place Activation Officer is now part of the project team and is working with businesses to activate the area.
  • Beach Access 274, 275 + the sandy beach between the goat track (rock shelf entry) remains closed until works are complete.
  • Flexible work hours: We’ll work around the tides – starting earlier, finishing later, and using selected weekend shifts if needed.

Completed March works

  • Approximately 80% of the central section now completed, despite very limited workable conditions.
  • A semi-mature healthy Norfolk Pine has been planted to replace the Cook Island pine tree that was removed late last year. Its planting position was carefully selected to sit as close as practicable to the original location, in a spot that supports the tree’s long‑term health while also safeguarding the structural performance of the seawall now and into the future.

What we're doing now

While conditions restrict seawall construction at times, we’re making the most of every workable opportunity.
  • Working on the central section with flexible work hours around tide windows, including early starts, late finishes and selected Saturdays.
  • Council’s Activation Officer is holding weekly meetings with Moffat Beach business owners to provide support for some exciting upcoming place activation activities.
  • Engagement and oversight with Kabi Kabi Peoples Aboriginal Corporation for works over and around the Eastern rock shelf.
  • Beach Access 274, 275 + the sandy beach between the goat track (rock shelf entry) remains closed until works are complete.
How to access the beach
  • The safest and only recommended access point during this stage of construction is via the vehicle access ramp at the western end of the beach.
  • Please follow all site signage and directions from workers.

Beach, cafes and shops are open

Moffat Beach is open to welcome you. Grab a coffee, browse the shops, and catch up at your favourite café.

Parking may be tight, so why not ride your bike or take the bus? With 50-cent fares, getting to the beach and supporting local businesses has never been easier.

We appreciate your patience – the improvements will be worth it.
