Moffat Beach seawall reconstruction
|
Hello Moffat Beach community,
|
We remain committed to finishing the Moffat Beach seawall reconstruction as quickly and safely as possible. The team has been focused on what matters most right now – getting the job done.
Over the past few months we've made significant progress on the seawall, navigated challenging weather and ocean conditions, and worked through some complex construction activities.
With major milestones now either complete or within sight, we're excited to share what's been happening and what's next. Most importantly, we're working towards reopening key areas of the foreshore, including public parking and improved access, in time for the September school holidays.
|
Moffat Beach is still open and welcoming visitors! Check out the new eastern beach bar we've installed, enjoy the ocean vibes, grab a coffee, and support the local shops and cafés you know and love.

In short:
|
- The rock seawall is complete, with only minor adjustment works and the construction access track still to be built.
- Beach access stairs at 275 are complete and open for public use.
- The eastern beach bar is complete and open to enjoy.
- Beach clean-up activities have begun. Temporary traffic controls may be used on beach areas when machinery is working in the area.
- The access track between the administration compound and storage yard is now open to the public.
- In time for the September school holidays, the eastern car park will reopen and key areas of the foreshore will be returned to the community.
- Construction areas will be progressively removed as works are completed, improving access to the beach and local businesses.
- We are working to complete the seawall reconstruction and progressively remove the majority of construction infrastructure so the foreshore can reopen by mid-October, weather and ocean conditions permitting.
- After the September school holidays, once the seawall works are complete, contractors will return to replace the fence at the western end of the seawall with a sandstone wall that matches the eastern section. This follows community feedback and a detailed safety assessment. These works are expected to take up to one month to complete.

What's happening now?
|
- Beach clean-up works are underway and will continue over coming months as conditions allow. While larger machinery is carrying out the initial clean-up, smaller equipment will return periodically to complete more detailed work.
- As part of the final stages, construction compounds will progressively reduce in size and relocate away from key public areas. This will allow more of the foreshore to reopen and improve access for the community.
- A major milestone will occur in September when public parking reopens and beach access improves ahead of the school holiday period.

Looking ahead
|
In time for the September school holidays, our community can look forward to:
- reopening of the eastern car park
- improved access to the foreshore
- reduced construction footprint
- reopening of the coastal pathway.
These changes will make it easier for residents and visitors to enjoy Moffat Beach while we complete the final project works.
While weather and swell conditions can still influence the construction program, our focus remains on completing the project safely and efficiently while minimising disruption to our community and local businesses.

Western foreshore area and fence
|
Community feedback has helped inform discussions about proposed changes to the western foreshore area and fence.
After considering a range of options put forward by both Council officers and community members, and informed by a multi-criteria risk assessment, we have resolved to remove the fence and install a second concrete ground slab with a single height sandstone stone wall that matches the existing stone wall along the eastern section of the foreshore.
Our immediate priority is completing the seawall reconstruction and reopening the foreshore ahead of the September school holidays.
Once this is done, contractors will return to complete the western foreshore works. These works are expected to start after the September school holidays and take up to one month, with a much smaller construction footprint than the current seawall works.
