Millwell Park, Maroochydore

Proposed removal of cricket pitch and fencing

Consultation closes Friday 12 December 2025
Sunshine Coast Council is committed to creating safe, welcoming and well-maintained public spaces for everyone to enjoy.

We’re reviewing the future of the cricket pitch and surrounding fencing at Millwell Park in Maroochydore and we need your input.

The fencing has reached the end of its life and now requires either reconstruction or removal.

We are considering removing the cricket pitch and fencing, and returning the area to open space, for several reasons:
  • The fencing has significant rust and corrosion, and the posts are no longer secure in the ground.
  • Depending on how often the area is used, the cost to replace the fencing may be better invested elsewhere in our open space network.
  • Removing the cricket pitch and fencing would allow the area to be returned to open green space, creating more flexible use for the community.
  • Millwell Park is designated as a Local Recreation Park in Council’s Environment and Liveability Strategy. Cricket facilities are not a supported feature in this type of park under Council’s Recreation Parks Plan.
Please note: Due to the close proximity of the cricket pitch to nearby homes, the pitch cannot be retained if the fence is not renewed.
