We've got some great news to share. After months of construction, the Moffat Beach seawall reconstruction is entering its final stages.
Major seawall works are now complete, machinery is off the beach, and we're reopening key areas of the foreshore for the September school holidays.
Thank you for your patience, support and understanding throughout this important project.

The finish line is in sight! With more of the foreshore now open, it's the perfect time to visit Moffs, soak up the ocean views and support your favourite local cafés, shops and businesses.

In short:
|
✅ The seawall is complete.
✅ Major machinery has been removed from the beach.
✅ The eastern car park has reopened for the September school holidays.
✅ New paths, seating areas and public spaces are now complete.
✅ Landscaping works are continuing, including additional shade trees requested by the community.
✅ The new eastern beach bar is complete and ready to enjoy.

Seawall complete
|
A major milestone has been reached, with construction of the seawall now complete.
Recent achievements include:
- installation of sandstone blocks
- completion of beach access stair 275
- construction of the BA274 bench slab
- installation of central drainage infrastructure
- completion of memorial plaque installations.
Only minor facing and finishing works remain.

Beach reopened for the school holidays
|
Construction compounds have now been significantly reduced and relocated, allowing key public areas to reopen.
This means:
- the eastern car park has now reopened
- the foreshore has been returned to public use
- construction impacts are greatly reduced, and are now minor over the next few weeks
- improved access to local businesses and the beach.
A small contractor area will remain on the grassed section near the amenities, however this will not affect public parking.

Machinery now off the beach
|
Heavy machinery has now been removed from the beach.
Beach clean-up activities will continue over coming weeks, with crews returning as required to complete detailed clean-up work and leave the beach in great condition for the community to enjoy.

New paths, seating and landscaping
|
Construction of the final paths, seating areas and public spaces is now complete.
We've also updated the landscaping plan in response to community feedback.
Many people told us they would like more shade near the new seating areas and supported additional tree planting. We've listened.
Three new Coastal Banksias will be planted to provide shade and amenity while maintaining the relaxed coastal character of Moffat Beach.

Western foreshore update
|
We've listened to community feedback about the western end of the seawall and, following a detailed assessment, will make some changes to improve both the look and function of the area.
The fence in front of the new park seating will be replaced with a sandstone block wall, similar to the feature wall along the eastern section of the foreshore.
The remaining fence between the picnic tables and beach access 274 (BA274) will also be modified to improve views while maintaining safety.
These works are expected to begin in late October, following completion of the seawall project, and are anticipated to be finished by the end of November, weather permitting.
During construction, the work area will be temporarily fenced off and a small section of the car park will be used for construction activities. We will work to keep any impacts to the community as limited as possible.

Supporting local businesses
|
Throughout construction, Council's Place Activation Officer and local businesses have worked together to keep Moffat Beach vibrant and welcoming.
Highlights include:
- weekly meetings of the Moffat Beach Business Advisory Group
- three successful Moffat Beach Street Parties
- Sunset Cinema events in Eleanor Shipley Park
- marketing and promotional support for local businesses
- thousands of visitors returning to the precinct through community activations.
These initiatives have helped support local businesses, encourage visitation and maintain the strong community spirit that makes Moffat Beach unique.

What's next
|
The beach, car park and foreshore will be ready for our community to enjoy during the September school holidays, with construction infrastructure significantly reduced and key public areas reopened.
Following the school holidays, contractors will return to complete the planned improvements to the western foreshore area. These works are expected to begin in late October and continue through November, with a much smaller construction footprint than the seawall project.
Minor works such as landscaping, handrails and turf establishment will also continue during this period.
