Construction Notification

We're providing an update on construction progress and upcoming works for the Maple Street Streetscape Upgrade.

In brief

✅ Raised pedestrian crossing near the IGA is now open

🚧 Construction activity will increase across both work zones over the coming weeks

🚧 Construction of the new pedestrian crossing near Myrtle Street is progressing.

✅ Work hours are generally 6am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.

Crossing 4 - now open for pedestrians.

Current and upcoming construction activities

Construction will continue to take place between 6am and 6pm. Night works are not expected at this stage

The new raised pedestrian crossing near the IGA (Zone 1, Area 1) is now complete and open to traffic.

Temporary ramps and handrails remain in place to allow pedestrians to safely use the crossing while surrounding works continue.

Construction activity will increase over the coming weeks, with crews working in both Zone 1 and Zone 2 at the same time.

The construction contractor is working hard to mitigate impacts to our community however during these works, you may notice increased noise, vibration and dust at times.

Myrtle Street pedestrian crossing (Zone 2, Area 2)

Construction of the new pedestrian crossing near Myrtle Street (crossing 1) is progressing.

Footpath works (Zone 1, Area 2)

Crews have begun removing and rebuilding sections of footpath on the northern side of Maple Street, between numbers 40 and 44 Maple Street. This work is being done in preparation for the construction of crossing 3.

Footpath works (Zone 2, Area 2)

Footpath works will happen in stages along the western end of Maple Street, starting in late August for approximately eight weeks*.

New crossing near the chemist (Zone 1, Area 2)

Preparatory works for the new pedestrian crossing 3 near the chemist will begin from 31 August 2026*.

Due to site constraints and Department of Transport and Main Roads requirements, temporary traffic changes will be needed while this work takes place.

These include:

Closure of the west-bound lane between the Coral Street roundabout and Fig Street.
A signed detour via Coral Street for west-bound traffic.
This detour is expected to be in place for approximately 4 weeks*.
Continued access to parking from the east-bound lane.
Access to Teak Street, including the IGA car park and Mitre 10, will be available from the east-bound lane of Maple Street only.
Temporary changes to parking on the southern side of Maple Street, with vehicles required to nose-in and reverse-out of angled parking bays.

Please allow extra travel time while these arrangements are in place, as short delays may occur.

Temporary detour plan for west-bound traffic.

Temporary changes to traffic, parking and loading

You can still walk along Maple Street. Temporary footpath diversions will be in place when needed to keep everyone safe.

While work is underway, some parking spaces will be temporarily unavailable to help maintain traffic flow and provide a safe work area for construction crews.

There may also be changes to how some parking spaces are accessed and used. Signage will be in place to guide motorists.

The loading bay servicing the Community Centre and nearby businesses will remain operational. During construction of crossing 3 near the chemist, the loading bay will be accessible from the east-bound lane only.

The temporary traffic signs, barriers and bollards in place are approved by the Department of Transport and Main Roads and are there to help keep road users, pedestrians and construction workers safe. Please do not move or remove any traffic control devices. If you notice a sign or barrier that appears out of place, please let a member of the construction team or a traffic controller know.

Health, safety and environment

Please follow all signage, pedestrian diversions and traffic management directions while travelling through the work area.

Safety, environmental and erosion and sediment control measures will remain in place throughout construction.

We also kindly remind everyone to be respectful and considerate towards Council staff and contractors working on site. Our crews are working hard to deliver improvements for the community and appreciate your patience and understanding during construction.
