Landslip repair - First Bay, Coolum

Final works nearing completion

Hello community members,

We’re pleased to confirm that the final stage of works will be undertaken next week, weather and site conditions permitting.

There is a short period of night works planned to safely complete the road surface and line marking.

What's happening next week

The final stage will involve night works between 6pm and 6am on the following dates:
  • Sunday 10 May – Profile and reinstate northbound lane of David Low Way.
  • Monday 11 May – Remove the temporary pedestrian island. (This island was installed only to support construction. As David Low Way is a state-controlled road, Council cannot keep temporary or permanent changes in place without state approval.)
  • Tuesday 12 May – Continue removing the temporary pedestrian island and remove temporary line markings.
  • Wednesday 13 May – Continue removing temporary line markings.
  • Thursday 14 – Apply final line marking
Traffic controllers will be on site during night works and will allow access for emergency service vehicles if required.

Residents and service providers will continue to have full access to properties during the day, outside of the scheduled night works hours.

Why temporary works are being removed

All temporary works linked to this project will now be removed, including:
  • The temporary pedestrian crossing
  • Temporary fencing
  • Temporary line marking at the intersection of David Low Way and Mona Vista Court
These elements were installed to support construction only.

As a reminder, David Low Way is a state‑controlled road, managed by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR). Council is unable to authorise permanent changes or reinstate temporary features once works are finished.

The road will be returned to its pre‑works condition and formally handed back to DTMR once the project is complete.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation while we finish these final works.

Funding and project scope

These repair works have been jointly funded through the Commonwealth‑State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

In Queensland, DRFA funding is administered by the Queensland Reconstruction Authority (QRA), the state’s lead agency for disaster recovery and resilience.

Sunshine Coast Council worked closely with QRA to secure this funding to restore civil assets damaged during severe weather events in February and April 2022, ensuring assets were rebuilt to their pre‑event level of function.

DRFA funding is specifically allocated for restoration and rectification, not enhancement or betterment. This means works are delivered on a like‑for‑like basis, and any upgrades or additions beyond the original asset condition must be funded through other sources.

Thank you for your patience

We recognise this project has taken longer than originally anticipated and sincerely thank residents, commuters and visitors for your ongoing patience and understanding. We look forward to completing the final activities and returning this area fully to community use.
We have worked with the Queensland Reconstruction Authority (QRA) to secure funding to repair this landslip and other damaged civil assets with assistance from the jointly funded Commonwealth-state Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

This is one of 15 landslips across the Sunshine Coast repaired using DRFA funding.
